Dineen Garden Perlite is a lightweight, sterile, and pH-neutral volcanic mineral that enhances soil structure, aeration, and drainage. Its porous nature promotes root growth and nutrient uptake, creating healthier and more vibrant plants.

  • Improved Soil Aeration: Perlite’s lightweight structure prevents soil compaction, allowing roots to breathe and thrive.
  • Enhanced Drainage: Prevents waterlogging and root rot by facilitating optimal drainage, promoting healthy root development.
  • Versatile Applications: Suitable for indoor and outdoor gardening,
potted plants, seed starting, and hydroponic systems

Usage

Perlite is a popular additive in horticulture due to its ability to improve soil aeration and drainage. Here’s how you can use perlite effectively:

Potting Mix: Perlite is commonly added to potting mixes to improve their structure. Mix perlite with soil or other growing media such as peat moss or coconut coir. A typical ratio is 1 part perlite to 2-3 parts soil.

Seed Starting: Perlite is excellent for starting seeds. Create a seed starting mix by combining perlite with peat moss or compost. This mix provides a light, well-draining environment for germinating seeds.

Propagation: Perlite is often used for propagating plants from cuttings. Fill a container with perlite and water it until it’s evenly moist. Insert the cuttings into the perlite, ensuring good contact between the cutting and the perlite. Perlite provides support and moisture while allowing air to reach the developing roots.

Soil Amendment: If you have heavy or compacted soil, perlite can help improve its structure. Mix perlite into the soil at a ratio of about 25-30% perlite to soil. This improves aeration and drainage, which is beneficial for plant growth.

Hydroponics: Perlite is commonly used as a growing medium in hydroponic systems. It provides support for the plants’ roots while allowing water and nutrients to reach them efficiently. Perlite is inert and pH neutral, making it suitable for hydroponic applications.
Mulching: Perlite can also be used as a mulch to cover the soil surface around plants. This helps retain moisture, suppress weeds, and regulate soil temperature.

When using perlite, remember:
Moisture Management: Perlite retains some moisture but drains quickly. Water plants grown in perlite regularly, but avoid overwatering as perlite does not hold onto water for long periods.

Protection: Perlite can be dusty, so wear a mask when handling it to avoid inhaling particles.

Sterilisation: Perlite is sterile, which helps prevent the introduction of pests and diseases to your plants.

By incorporating perlite into your horticultural practices, you can improve soil structure, promote healthy root growth, and ultimately enhance plant growth and productivity.
